Once you meditate for awhile, you go out into space and start to get a sense of the ‘boundaries’ of the universe…or so I thought…

I was in a sesshin (Zen Buddhist retreat). A time you when you spend a lot of time in meditation. Sometimes sesshin is a blissful experience from start to finish. Other times, it is physically and mentally painful for awhile. Your body really, really aches, your mind is screaming for an activity to occupy itself with because that’s what it does. And you sit there, and sit there and sit there with no stimulation.

But then sometimes something beautiful happens and on this time it did. At the point where I didn’t think I could stand the pain anymore, I left my body and floated off  to explore the boundaries of the universe. It is so much more beautiful than we can ever imagine. Stars, planets, space.

And then when I thought I had gotten to the end of it — the end of all that is — I was compelled to reach out my hand and tough the “end of the universe.”

Well, the universe had a surprise for me that day. I reached my hand out, and touch a barrier (there was not supposed to be a barrier there) and rubbed it, and when I looked through, I saw another universe, entirely. I was a very peaceful agrarian society. Very green. Men wheeling loads of grain. No electricity. Humans or humanoids lived there. It was amazing.

I felt like all my life I had been in a version of the Truman Show…

The bell rang and I was whisked back into my body, although about 45 degrees off center. Had to jump out and jump back in to re-adjust…

But what a wonderful experience. To know there are other universes/multiverses out there. We’re not the only game in town.
